Job Position: Accounting Assistant, full-time, hourly

Location: Farwell

Responsible To: Finance Director

General Responsibilities: Takes steps to ensure that the agency maintains its "low-risk" auditee standing and makes every effort to ensure that the agency has no questioned costs or findings in its annual audit.

Specific Duties:

  • Verifies details of business transactions from documents such as sales slips, invoices, receipts, statements, and purchase requisitions.
  • Compares invoices against purchase orders and shipping and receiving documents to verify receipt of items ordered.
  • Contacts vendors regarding errors in partial or duplicate shipments and billing amounts.
  • Enter check requisition data into computerized accounting system.
  • Prepares accounts payable checks for signatures and mailing.
  • Maintains accounts payable vendor filing system and other record keeping.
  • Maintain accounting records in safe, secure storage, making them available as necessary for review or audit.
  • Assists agency staff with verifying payment to vendor, return of merchandise, vendor issues and fund raiser account balances.
  • Maintain semi-monthly follow up of prepaid requisitions to ensure timely submission of receipts or packing lists from staff and/or vendors.
  • Completes and verifies accuracy of child care billings and deposits.
  • Maintain accurate records of agency non-expendable supply inventory.
  • Participate in personal and professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in accounting, or three years related experience or equivalent combination

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)
  • Demonstrated communication skills both oral and written.
  • Must be self-directed and able to coordinate the completion of assigned tasks and be willing to accept new challenges on a daily basis.
